Wells City Badminton Club

  1. Please always adequately warm up at the start of each session (ref below).

  2. When others are playing, anyone waiting off court should stay well clear of all court boundaries, particularly behind the courts. Players often move backwards quickly to return the shuttle, and standing too close can create a risk of collision. If you need to walk between courts, please wait until the rally has finished before crossing to avoid distracting players or causing an accident.

  3. In doubles games, never turn to watch your partner play a shot. This is a common cause of serious eye injuries in badminton and, in some cases, can result in permanent loss of sight.

  4. At the end of every game or match, please show good sportsmanship by tapping racket or high-fiving your partner and opponents, and thanking them for the game.

  5. For both your own safety and that of others, we encourage all members to watch videos on correct positioning in mixed and level doubles. Understanding where to stand and how to move on court helps prevent collisions and costly racket clashes.

  6. After each point, the correct badminton etiquette is to return the shuttle to the serving player.

  7. Remain aware of any shuttlecocks left on court and move them off the playing area when not in use, as they can present a trip hazard.

  8. Please remain on your own side of the net and within your designated court during play. Running onto neighbouring courts can lead to collisions and injuries.

  9. If an injury occurs, please notify a committee member or a member of the leisure centre staff immediately.

Court Safety and Etiquette

Recommended On-Court Warm-Up Routine (approx. 2-3 minutes):

  1. Light Rallies (Drives): Start with flat drives to get used to the shuttle speed.

  2. Clears: Perform high clears to warm up the shoulder muscles.

  3. Drops and Lifts: Practice drops and defensive lifts to warm up the legs for lunging.

  4. Smashes and Defences: Gentle smashes with return defence.

  5. Net Shots/Serve: Finish with delicate net play and testing serves.
